Westende Alms Houses

Location – Westende consists of two blocks of self- contained flats, 27 in all, in pleasant well maintained gardens, located in Peach Street, Wokingham, Berkshire. They are close to the shops and only a short walk from other facilities (External views of Westende).

Accommodation – In each flat there is a spacious living room , a double bedroom, a modern fitted kitchen and a bathroom with a walk-in shower; there is generous storage space and each flat has its own front door (View of typical flat).

A guest room is available for a relative or friend visiting for a short period.

Limited parking spaces are provided for the use of residents & visitors. 

Warden – There is a resident warden.

A Weekly Maintenance Charge is payable.  The WMC covers the cost of the accommodation and includes all heating and hot water charges.

Facilities – A Residents lounge is provided with a kitchen for communal use.  A Laundry room is available for use by residents and is fitted with washing machines and dryers (View residents lounge).

If you would like to apply for a place in the almshouse, please contact the Clerk to the Trustees, Mr Peter Robinson, on 01344 762637 or by e-mail, info@westende.org.uk.  Applications are invited at any time, but will only be accepted when there is a vacancy. 

Westende almshouses provide sheltered accommodation for the elderly.  Applications will be considered by the trustees on the basis of the power vested in the charity to provide accommodation for persons in need who live in Wokingham, Wokingham Without, St Nicholas Hurst, Ruscombe or Finchampstead (or whose immediate family lives in the same area).   The acceptance of an application is entirely at the trustees’ discretion.
